November 13th-Cancer Diagnosis

I was up a great deal of the night and spent a lot of time in the recliner.  When we went to the temple last night I got a pain in my ribs as we were going in but when we got in to do sealings it did not hurt so I assumed it was nothing but then when I was dressing it began to hurt again.  I kept thinking that it would go away but it did not and I ended up calling Tanner Clinic when the phone line opened about 7:00 a.m.  They said that they had an appointment with Dr. Michael Yeates at 8:30 a.m.  so I took it.  I didn’t have a regular doctor to ask for because Dr. Lee had died about a week or two before and I did not want to go back to a Dr. Kendall that I had gone to recently.

I woke Larry up and asked him if he wanted to come with me.  We got dressed.  At the time I was worried about a heart problem. Larry gave me a blessing before we left.  In it he told me that this was a short problem and that I still had things to do.

When we got to the doctors they did several tests that determined that it was not in my tissue.  They did an EKG and it said that there was a 95% chance that there was nothing wrong with my heart.  But the doctor said that he wanted to send me to the hospital to get some tests just to make sure.  He gave me two papers one for a prescription and one for the tests.  I assumed I knew which one was the prescription and when we got to the hospital I didn’t know what to give them so we went back to the doctors office to get the orders.  In the mean time I went to the pharmacy for the prescription and when I gave them what I thought was the prescription it was the orders.  So I felt stupid but we went and got the other orders and went back to the hospital.  The tests at the hospital were blood tests.  We had them completed and went home.

We went home and ate and waited for some eye exams that we had at 2:00 p.m.  About 1:30 p.m. the doctor called and said that we needed to go back to the hospital because one of the tests had indicated that I had a blood clot.  I asked him if I could go to the eye exam first and he said that he wouldn’t .  He was afraid that I could have the clot move while in the chair and could die there so we postponed the eye appointments as we drove to the hospital.  They were very understanding and gave us new appointments the next week.

They did a CT Scan at the hospital.  Then we went home to wait to hear what the doctor said.  He called about and hour later and asked us to come into the office.   So we went to the office again.  Thankfully it is only 5 minutes away.

When we got there it was about 5:00 p.m. They were trying to close up the office so I was surprised that he had us come down.  When we got there he said that the good news was that it was not my heart.  But then he said that the bad news was I had a broken rib and that I had bone lesions on my ribs that was probably the reason for them breaking.  He said that with lesions like this I could have broken my ribs by sneezing.  He then told me that he had made an appointment for me with Dr. Carl Gray at Utah Hematology and Oncology on November 18th.  I wasn’t sure how bad this was but the nurse looked at me like I had just been told I was going to die so I figured that it was Cancer.  We came home kind of bummed
